Bound is a personal cookbook app for iPhone, developed by Matthew Josephson. This policy explains how the Bound app handles your information.

The simple version

Bound stores your cookbooks on your device. It does not require an account, and it does not send your recipes, photos, or bookplate name to the developer or to external servers. Recipe scanning and text recognition happen on your iPhone.

Information stored on your device

Bound saves the information you enter or choose to import so you can use your cookbooks again:

  • Your bookplate name and cookbook names, covers, and style choices.
  • Recipe titles, subtitles, sources, ingredients, methods, servings, cooking times, chapters, and notes.
  • Photos you add to recipes, including images used when importing a recipe.
  • Favourites and cooking records, including dates, ratings, and notes.

This information is stored locally using Apple's on-device storage technologies. The developer cannot access it through the app.

Camera, photos, and recipe recognition

If you choose to scan a recipe or add a photo, Bound uses the camera or the images you select for that feature. You control camera access through iOS permissions and can change it in Settings.

Apple's Vision framework recognises recipe text on your device. Bound then organises that text locally into suggested recipe fields for you to review. Images and recognised text are not uploaded to an AI service or a remote recognition server.

Collection, sharing, and tracking

Bound does not collect personal information on the developer's servers, sell your information, or share your cookbook content with advertisers or other third parties. The app does not use advertising or analytics tracking.

Device backups

Local storage is separate from device backups. Depending on your iPhone settings, app data may be included in an iCloud or computer backup managed by Apple's system tools. Bound does not operate a cloud backup service, and the developer has no access to your device backups.

You can manage backup settings through Apple's tools. See what iCloud backs up for more information.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your cookbook content remains on your device until you remove it. Taking a cookbook off the shelf deletes that cookbook and its contents from the app. Deleting the app from your iPhone removes its local app data; offloading the app can retain that data. Copies in existing device backups are managed separately through your backup settings.

Contacting the developer

If you email the developer, your email address and the information you include are received through email and used to respond to your request. Please only include recipe content or photos in a support message if you want to share them.

Children's privacy

Bound does not collect personal information from users, including children, through the app. Information entered into a cookbook stays in the app's local storage, subject to the device backup settings described above.

This website

This policy describes the Bound iPhone app. The website hosting this page is separate from the app and uses Google Analytics to measure website visits. Website hosting and analytics providers may process technical information about your visit, such as your IP address, browser, and pages viewed. Visiting this website does not give it access to your Bound cookbooks.

Changes to this policy

If Bound's data practices change, this page will be updated with a revised date.
